Last night, at the INT Aditya Birla Theatre…
A Fish Ate My Cat unfolded like a gentle dream. Humour and poignancy were woven into a tender meditation on ageing and memory.
Yuki Ellias, the main actor, was wow!
At its heart, A Fish Ate My Cat follows Sarita Johnson, a septuagenarian Bandra resident living alone, navigating grief, routine, and a gently fantastical inner world. Her days revolve around small rituals — cutting milk packets with Tom & Jerry scissors, frying exactly three pieces of surmai, attending an imaginary 3 pm “concert” inspired by a neighbour’s piano. These details form a precise, ordered universe shaped by dementia, portrayed not as decline but as a creative, lived reality.
The stagecraft was inventive yet simple. And the live music added a soulful undercurrent…
Latoya insisted I go. I’m glad I went.
